Issue #34: Cinnamon + Honey = Healing Power?

Cinnamon and Honey: Healers of Disease or Too Good to be True?

by Laura Saville

I'm constantly on the lookout for natural remedies, so I was excited to come across some information about a seemingly easy and affordable way to keep my family healthy. And from what I can tell, a mixture of cinnamon and honey really does have the potential to treat diseases often assumed to be treatable only by prescription drugs.

Cinnamon and honey are each well-known for their pleasant tastes, but that's not all they have to offer us. They tout a long list of strong medicinal properties including antimicrobial, antioxidant and antiseptic abilities, and when combined together they give us a powerful one-two punch against many diseases!

Cinnamon and honey have been found to treat an astounding array of illnesses including HIV, type 2 diabetes, herpes, cold, flu, and even the antibiotic-resistant superbug, MRSA. And there are many more I could list. These are just a few that I was super impressed with.

Soon after I found this information it just so happened that my 4-year-old son came down with a cold, so I decided to try out one of the recipes I found online. I gave him 1 tablespoon of honey mixed with 1/8 teaspoon of cinnamon in about a 1/3 cup of warm water a couple times a day for three days. Guess what? It worked! It shortened the severity of his cold, and his stuffy/runny nose was eliminated by the end of the second day. He was eager to drink the mixture because, of course, it tasted so good! After that experience, I'll definitely be checking out some other recipes whenever we have an aliment in the family.

To be sure, it's important to search out honey that's organic, not irradiated, and locally produced whenever possible. Otherwise, its medicinal properties are muted at best, and you'll run into a host of other problems like pesticides and radiation. Finding cinnamon that's organic and not irradiated is equally as important. It's also worth buying a good quality cinnamon that's been through as little processing as possible. I've heard that Ceylon cinnamon is a favorite among cinnamon lovers.
